10:04 am - 20 Random Facts About Coop Barrett. (General Hospital)
Meme shamelessly stolen from [info]inell. Warning: may slightly deivate from canon, but I'm a fanfic writer. It's my prerogative.

1. From the time he is very young, he remembers his dad visiting only occasionally. His mother tells him it is because his dad is very busy with the business he runs, but Cooper can't help but wonder if maybe it's because of him.

2. During one of the visits his dad has a little girl with him, only a baby. He tells Cooper that this is his little sister, Brook Lynn. Cooper's manly four-year-old self thinks she's too wrinkly and loud, and what is she good for? He can't even play ninjas with her.

3. As he gets older, his sister begins to grow on him. She is kinda fun to play with, and his friends at school think it's cool that he can pick her up all by himself. Plus when he wants a cookie, all he has to do is get Brookie to pout and they both get one.

4. When Brookie is five and Cooper is nine, she stops visiting. Dad says it's because her mom doesn't want her around the Quartermaines, just like Coop's mom doesn't. Cooper doesn't know who these Quatermaine people are, but he assumes they're important, because it makes his dad sad when he says it.

5. He still gets to talk to Brookie on the phone sometimes, and whenever he and Mommy have a reason to be on that side of the city he begs her to take him to Bensonhurst to see her. She does it sometimes, because she likes Gloria Cerullo's manicotti as much as the next person.

6. When Coop is twelve, he has to tell Brookie he is moving to London. He doesn't want to, but Mom's business is moving there and she says he'll have lots of fun and make new friends at his new school. All he really wants, though, is to stay in New York and keep going to school with Frankie and John.

7. He does make new friends, though, and they are fun. Lots of fun, actually. His new friend Logan is living at school, which makes Coop laugh. Why would anyone want to live at school? Then Logan tells him his mom died and he's at the school on scholarship, and Coop takes the right hook to the jaw like a man and stops laughing, because he deserved that.

8. There are four women in Coop's life that he adores: his mom, Brookie, the new girl at school Jennifer, who he secretly has a crush on, and his aunt Brenda. He doesn't get to see her very much any more, but she calls every Sunday and they talk for a least half an hour. He thinks that she's the coolest aunt ever.

9. So when he's fifteen and Mom looks at him, her eyes hollow, and tells him that Aunt B (his totally cool aunt, that he just talked to last night) is dead, he forgets that crying is for little girls and sobs. And he lets his mom hold him, for the first time since he was five.

10. Then he holds her while she cries for her little sister, and Coop realizes that he's getting close to being a man now. He's taller than Mom already, even in her heels, and though he hasn't seen Dad in years, he's pretty sure he's taller than him too.

11. When he goes to school the next day with red eyes, Logan doesn't tease him about crying. He just says "That sucks, man," and claps him on the shoulder, and it's then that Coop knows that this guy is going to be his best friend for the rest of his life. They depend on each other, and that's important to Coop. And he can see it's important to Logan too.

12. As he gets older, his phone calls to Brookie get farther and farther in between. She still sends him cards on his birthday, though, and for his last one she wrote him a song. He has the sheet of paper with the lyrics on it tucked into the corner of the mirror on his dresser in the room he shares with Logan (because since they're best friends, it made sense to share a dorm room, even though he could still live in the flat with his mom). Brookie (who insists he call her Brook Lynn now, though to him she'll always be little Brookie with the chocolate pigtails) is the one who inherited their father's musical talent. Coop couldn't sing to save his life.

13. When the Twin Towers come down, Coop cries. He's eighteen, and a man now, living in an apartment in Caliornia with Logan, but he remembers going there with Brookie when he was little. Then he remembers that Brookie could have been downtown and calls her, and cries again when she answers and says she's fine. It's then that he says that he loves her; the first time he's said it out loud since he was about ten.

14. That's what makes him decide to join the army. Those guys aren't going to get away with what they did to his city, what they could have done to his sister and what they did do to tons of other people's' sisters and brothers and mothers and fathers and sons and daughters. Logan decides to join up too, because they made a pact long ago and where one goes, so does the other.

15. And a year later, when he narrowly misses being killed by a sharp piece of shrapnel that his best friend- no, his brother- takes for him, he is glad that he met Logan Hayes. He tells him so and Logan just shrugs and winces as the medic bandages his arm and calls him twelve kinds of idiot. Coop thinks she has a crush on Logan, though, and that's why she's being so harsh.

16. They get out around the same time, though not for the same reasons, but Coop stands by his friend. He has to- Logan doesn't have anyone else. And so they go back to their apartment in California, but it isn't the same because they aren't the same.

17. Coop rues the day he ever met James Craig, though he later comes to realize that his real name is Jerry Jacks. In a way, though, he is grateful, because if it weren't for him he would never have been locked in that damn vault with Maxie Jones.

18. He's in love with that girl. He knows it the minute she tells him that she'll help him when they get out- her fire and spirit amaze him, and he has to get to know her better, because he's certain he's going to spend the rest of his life with her.

19. Aunt Brenda's alive again. He found this out while he was in basic training, but he hadn't gotten a chance to see her until he went to New York to visit Brookie, and she was there seeing Lois. He's not ashamed to admit that he cried. Again. Damn. If Logan had been there, he would have called him ten kinds of pansy. Then hit on Brookie and Brenda in one breath.

20. When he first sees his father back in Port Charles, he doesn't know what to say. They had run into each other on the pier, Coop in his cop uniform (which he is incredibly proud of, even if he is working for Sonny Corinthos), and so he doesn't say anything. He just hugs him, and tells him good bye again, because he's leaving for California in the morning. Story of Coop's life, goodbyes are.

So it's kinda random and rambly but I really wanted to write it so I did. Next up, Serena Baldwin.

This was *awesome*. I'd totally snag this meme, if my eyes weren't shutting now.

How does it work anyway? Character prompts?

And do we really know if Coop is a *Barrett* Barrett, yet?

No, sadly. That's just my own belief (that he's Julia and Ned's son) though it does seem popular. Him being Julia's son anyway.

Anyhow, glad that you liked it! I think like I said I'm doing Serena next. But this one was one of those stream-o-consciousness things where I just started writing and had to get it out, so I'm probably going to wait for that kind of inspiration to strike for Serena (hey, that thing you used on your canon facts- where she wore Karen's ring around her neck- mind if I steal that idea? I totally loved it....)

As for the meme, yeah, it's just "20 Random Facts About [Fill In Character of Your Choice Here]". You can take prompts, or choose your own, and you build the story through the facts. Between [info]inell and [info]florahart I think they've done the whole Harry Potter universe.

Who wrote it then? I can't find it anywhere- and it was so good, about his relationships with everyone and really complex issues between himself and Nikolas.

Can we just make your Coop canon Coop? Because Ned's son? Perfect. And this history with Logan totally explains why they're still friends.

Loved this.

Coop is my favorite. :) I can totally see him being Ned and Julia's son....he just has to be. And I love the idea of he and Brook being siblings, so I had to throw that in there. So yes, he can be canon. Lol.
